I Speak Up Bulletin Board

 Items Needed

• I Speak Up Bulletin Board materials
• Stapler or tape
• Bulletin board, window, or wall in high-traffic area
• Post-it Notes (optional)
• Pens (use erasable if using laminated speech bubbles)

 Steps

1. Identify a location that students pass by frequently to post the “I Speak Up” materials.
2. Cut out bulletin board materials to be posted. A sample layout is provided but feel free to layout however you choose, making sure the educational information is correct.
3. Promote the bulletin board by sharing safety facts during morning announcements.
4. Decide which risk you want to focus on and post one of the included scenarios or make up your own. Scenarios are included for each of the risk factors the TDS-JH program focuses on so this bulletin board can be used throughout the year to gain input from students on different risks.
5. Give students an opportunity to provide their response on what they would say for the posted scenario. These can be collected in the classroom, at lunch, or even with an online poll. Get the conversation started by including a few responses on the board to provide some ideas of what students can say in this scenario.
6. Use the student responses as a learning opportunity with role-plays, discussing how to turn them into “I” statements, or when to get an adult involved.
7. Plan to leave the bulletin board up for 3-4 weeks to ensure all students see it.
8. Take photos of the bulletin board with your team to post on your social media channels and tag @TeensDriverSeat so we can see your great work.
9. Complete an activity form to get All-Star credit.
