PSA’s, School Bulletins, School Newspapers, Announcements

distractionsnighttimeseat beltsspeedingimpaired drivingped and biketrucks

Throughout the school year plan announcements to broadcast over the PA system.

Write an article and submit to the school paper or website. Articles can also be sent to local news outlets when your team is conducting a big activity or has won an award.

 Items Needed

  • Agenda for when the announcements will be made along with messages.
  • Search sample media releases to write your own for school or community media.

 Steps

  1. Speak with the appropriate person at your school to select a date, place, and time to conduct the announcements.
  2. Meet with your team to create safety messages for different events and holidays throughout the school year, incorporating the 5 risks.
  3. Have team members work together to write up a media release highlighting an activity or achievement.
  4. Send to the school paper editor or webmaster. You can also send to local media outlets, such as news stations, radio stations, and newspapers.
  5. Don’t forget to post links on social media!
  6. Complete an activity form for TDS All-Stars credit and send along the link or image of the news.
This can be a socially distanced activity as only one person is needed to make the announcements, and writing and sending the media release can be done electronically.

 Make it GREAT

A media release focusing on your Zero Hero efforts or outcome, or winning All-Stars awards, is a great way to get in the news.

Let’s Talk… Impaired Driving Prevention

This activity will help you facilitate a guided discussion with your peers to address their attitudes and behaviors around impaired driving and starts a conversation about the negative effect impairment has on car crashes and how teens can speak up for their safety.

VR Goggles

The VR goggles are available for schools, in limited areas, to borrow. The VR goggles offer multiple modules to complete, covering some of the risks a new driver will encounter.

Be A Lifesaver! Activity

TDS student leader(s) will hand out safety cards with Lifesaver candy attached. Cards can have Lifesaver messaging.

Recall the road memory challenge activity
