Risk Games

High School Activity
Teens are at a stage in life that is full of risks, both healthy and unhealthy. It’s important to be able to tell the difference between the two. Healthy risks help teens grow, offer learning opportunities and most often occur in a safe environment. Unhealthy risks put themselves or others in harmful situations and do not contribute to growth.

 Items Needed

  • Discussion questions
  • List of various risks and related consequences (cut out)
  • Answer Key

 Steps

  1. Can be done individually or in small groups of 3 or 4 students.
  2. Read out the following: Do you know the difference between healthy and unhealthy risks? Let’s find out and then talk about what we could and couldn’t identify.
  3. Allow students to take turns, or individually categorize risks.
  4. Reveal right and wrong answers, then capture how many risks were correctly categorized.
  5. Discussion questions:
    1. How did you choose if it was a healthy or unhealthy risk?
    2. Were there some risks that you thought were healthy or not? What did you learn?
    3. How can you learn to identify healthy risks?
    4. Why is risk important when growing up?
    5. Can you avoid risk?
    6. What are some consequences of these risks? Have students write out some immediate consequences and discuss them.
  6. Complete an activity form for All-Star Credit

Don’t Forget

This activity aims to show students the consequences of taking unhealthy risks.

 Make it GREAT

  • Have other classes play the game and share their experience.
