Memory Game – Impairments

High School Activity
This memory game activity has students match cards with images of impairments or their opposites with the correct descriptions.

 Items Needed

  • Memory cards from your TDS resource kit or these printable versions.
  • Player and Moderator
  • Stopwatch
  • Pen and paper to mark time and penalties
  • Leaderboard
  • Answer Key

 Steps

  1. The object of the game is to match the image card with the correct fact for the image in the fastest time.
  2. Shuffle the cards, then place all the cards laying face-down in a grid pattern on a flat surface so that all cards can be seen.
  3. The player will then turn over 1 card at a time, look at the card, then turn it back over face down in the same place. The player can select any card on the table to look at, as long as they only look at one at a time, until they find a match.
  4. When the player finds a match, they can turn up the first card of the match, then the 2nd card they believe is the match. All matches will have 1 image card and 1 fact card.
  5. The moderator tells the player “yes” if it is a correct match, or “no” if it is not. If it is a match, the cards are removed. If it is not a match, the moderator adds :10 seconds to the player’s end time, and the cards are placed face-down again, in their original place.
  6. Once the player is done, document their time with penalties and place on the leaderboard.
  7. Take pictures to send to us and post on social media and your website.
  8. Complete an activity form for All-Star Credit

Don’t Forget

The goal of this activity is to learn about how drugs can impair drivers behind the wheel.

 Make it GREAT

  • Give prizes to the top 3 players.
  • Print multiple sets of cards so multiple players can compete.
  • Place players on teams so they can work together.
