Invite a guest speaker/entertainer to come to your school.

 Items Needed

  • Permission from administrators
  • Time and Place
  • Audio visual equipment needed
  • TDS volunteers to welcome presenter and make introductions and announcements to audience

 Steps

  1. Decide upon a date for the assembly.
  2. Get permission from administration.
  3. Decide on a time and place.
  4. Find a presenter.
  5. Coordinate presenter’s needs and logistics.
  6. If appropriate, get students excited by setting up interactions beforehand, such as making a BINGO card where students mark a square if the presenter says something, or create a Kahoot challenge for after the presentation.
  7. Make sure to take photos and complete an activity form for All-Star points.

 Make it GREAT

See if this could be a school-wide assembly or invite other class groups to come listen to the presenter. Make time for questions or for students to meet the presenter.

Check out these new ideas

VR Goggles

The VR goggles are available for schools, in limited areas, to borrow. The VR goggles offer multiple modules to complete, covering some of the risks a new driver will encounter.

Be the Light – Nighttime Bulletin Board Activity

Bulletin boards in high-traffic areas provide you with a great opportunity to reach your peers. Use the “Be the Light” bulletin board resources provided in your resource kit to create a bulletin board that provides valuable information and starts a conversation about the risks of driving at night, and tips on how to be safe. These materials are designed to be cut out and displayed on a bulletin board, window, or another high-traffic area on your campus(minimum 4′ x 6′ area).

Commit-mint Cards

TDS student leader(s) will hand out Commit-Mints safety cards saying “Thanks for your commit-mint to always buckle up.”

Let’s Talk… Impaired Driving Prevention

This activity will help you facilitate a guided discussion with your peers to address their attitudes and behaviors around impaired driving and starts a conversation about the negative effect impairment has on car crashes and how teens can speak up for their safety.
