Focus Factor

distractions
This activity can be used to learn about the dangers of distracted driving and how you can speak up as a passenger. This activity can be completed individually or as a team and is a quick and easy activity that requires minimal materials.

Items Needed

  • Downloadable Focus Factor – Match the Facts worksheet
  • Scissors
  • Envelopes, small ziplock bags, or paper clips – to keep the strips together
  • Distraction-focused tattoos, stickers, or wristbands found in your resource kit to reward participants

Steps

  1. Download and print the Focus Factor – Match the Facts worksheet. You will need to determine if students will do the activity individually or as part of teams to know how many copies of the sentence strips to print. Print only one copy of the answer key.
  2. Cut the sentence strips out, mix them up, and place in envelope, bag, or clip together.
  3. To play, hand out sets of sentence strips (to individuals or teams). For team play, have each team sit together at a table or in a circle on the floor.
  4. Allow 3-5 minutes to match the strips to create accurate facts.
  5. When time is up, ask each individual/team to share a fact with the group, giving them an opportunity to correct any mismatched statements.
  6. Talk about distracted driving and how it leads to crashes. Encourage students to discuss ways they can speak up as a passenger when they see a distracted driver.
  7. Post photos of your team completing this activity on your social media channels to further promote the message of safe driving and tag @teensdriverseat so we can see your great work too!
  8. Submit an event/activity form to get All-Star credit.

Don’t Forget

The goal of this activity is to bring awareness to distracted driving and encourage students to speak up for their safety as passengers in their car.

Make it GREAT

  • Research seat belt safety, or any other risks TDS covers, and create new questions so you can play again.
  • Host this activity for other campus organizations and teams as a way

Let’s Talk… Impaired Driving Prevention

This activity will help you facilitate a guided discussion with your peers to address their attitudes and behaviors around impaired driving and starts a conversation about the negative effect impairment has on car crashes and how teens can speak up for their safety.

VR Goggles

The VR goggles are available for schools, in limited areas, to borrow. The VR goggles offer multiple modules to complete, covering some of the risks a new driver will encounter.

Be A Lifesaver! Activity

TDS student leader(s) will hand out safety cards with Lifesaver candy attached. Cards can have Lifesaver messaging.

Recall the road memory challenge activity
