Drive Bright at Night Neon Dress Up Day

Dress up for nighttime driving awareness by wearing neon colors to school.

 Items Needed

  • TDS nighttime banners and/or posters around the school
  • A date for the dress-up day
  • Notify students of the day and the reason for the day

 Steps

  1. Schedule the dress up day for your school and begin marketing it to the student body at least a week before the scheduled day. Make sure to tell them to dress in neon as a reminder to be bright at night, the most dangerous time to drive for teens.
  2. A couple of days before the scheduled day, hang up Nighttime driving posters and banners around your school.
  3. On the day of dress up, the TDS team can pair their team t-shirts with other neon articles of clothing.
  4. Hand out neon candies, glow sticks, or Drive Bright at Night wristbands to people who participated in the dress up day.
  5. Post photos of your activity on your social media channels to further promote the message of safe driving and tag @teensdriverseat so we can see your great work, too.
  6. Submit an online activity form at t-driver.com to get credit for your efforts.

Don’t Forget

The goal of this activity is to encourage your peers to remember nighttime driving is dangerous, especially in unlit, rural areas. Get lots of nighttime driving practice, avoid drowsy driving, and drive slower and always distraction free. Find more nighttime driving information.

 Make it GREAT

  • Pair this activity with the Nighttime Driving Risk Unit.
  • Set up a photo station with a neon backdrop and photo props, including a “Drive Bright at Night” sign and include positive messages pointing to how you and your peers are making good choices. Ask students to hold up a sign and have their photos taken. Share these on social media individually or group them together to create a video.
