Esmeralda Trevino, Dr. Cano Freshman Academy, February 2019

Meet Esmeralda, from Dr. Cano Freshman Academy in Harlingen, Texas.

If your life had a soundtrack, what songs would be on it?
High Hopes, Panic at the Disco

In five words or less, describe yourself.
determined, caring, loyal, intelligent, leader

Who is your favorite celebrity?
Zendaya

Who do you look up to?
My cousin Mia

What are your hobbies?
Theater and Speech, Drama and Debate

Where do you see yourself in five years?
In five years I see my self as a college student for the University of Texas in Austin studying to become a lawyer.

If you could meet five famous people, who would they be and why?
I would definitely want to meet Zendaya, because she is a young actress who didn’t crack under pressure and turn to drugs or alcohol. I would also want to meet Kaitlyn Roig Debellis, she was a 1st-grade teacher who survived the Sandy Hook Massacre. Kaitlyn was a survivor who tried to change the world after her experience and is currently advocating to end school shootings. She didn’t let people tell her no when the tried to stop her from changing the game. Alicia Keys is also at the top of my list. Alicia Keys is an amazing singer who refuses to let people tell her how to live her life. She is an all natural person who believes in inner beauty, and that people don’t need makeup or beauty enhancers to be beautiful. As someone who admires theater and acting, I think not mentioning Meryl Streep would be kinda weird. Meryl Streep has spent her whole career talking about the gender gap in the industry and I admire her for that because she is one of the few people who are brave enough to speak up. Lastly, I would want to meet Ellen Degeneres because she is incredibly funny and kind.

What do you want to be when you are older?
When I’m older I want to be a lawyer.

If you could do anything in the world or go anywhere, what/where would it be?
I would go to the bottom of the ocean to see what animals or plants live there

If you could change one thing about the way your friends drive or ride in the car, what would it be?
I would want them to be more cautious while driving, most of my friends tend to take Snapchats of them driving and don’t really pay attention to what is ahead of them.

Why are you involved in Teens in the Driver Seat®?
I am involved in Teens in the Drivers Seat because I’m tired of hearing about all of the young lives that are lost every day. It’s sad how careless teen drivers can be, and I want to change that. I want to help my generation and generations to come by opening their eyes and showing them the dangers of not being safe while driving.
