After the press conference last Monday, which reported that Texas is leading the nation in decreasing the number of teen fatal car crashes (due to the combination of graduated driver licensing laws and the Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) program), TDS received a wave of recognition and media attention.

Channelview High School, in Channelview, Texas, is the first Houston area school to start the Teens in the Driver Seat program. A press conference, which was rescheduled twice due to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike last fall, announced the launch of the program on Wednesday.
