We’re Now in Delaware!

Howdy, Delaware!

Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) is a peer-to-peer traffic safety program that you can start at no cost in your school in Delaware. We provide materials, resources, information and support. Your team provides the peer leadership and voice to spread the message about safe teen driving. TDS is nationally recognized as best practice program that has been shown to increase seat belts and decrease electronic use when messaging is actively and continuously promoted within a community.

Spots are limited, so act fast! Kits are sent on a first-come, first-served basis.

What will your team do?

We want teen teams to spread the message about the top risks teens face behind the wheel, including distractions, nighttime/drowsy driving, speeding, low seat belt use, and impaired driving. Your team can do the activities that are outlined in our activity calendar or you can make up your own. The program is very scalable to your school and your community, because you know your peers best.

Team Requirements

In order to receive the kit and resources, we need your commitment to conduct surveys in your school, as follows. High Schools with a student population of:

We also ask you complete activities and messaging of all sizes on a regular basis! When you do these activities, let us know what you did by completing an activity form. That way, we know you are active and keeping the message alive. The team teacher/sponsor or a teen leader can complete the form. These activities translate to points towards the TDS All-Stars and can earn your team up to $1,000!

TDS also sponsors lots of guided activities and contests, which we encourage you to participate in. Like Zero Crazy where you can win a $100 gift card for your team, Ride With Me – a teen-to-parent outreach activity, Driving the Message video and poster contest which awards up to $1,500 to your school. We will keep you informed of everything that you can participate in!

How do you get started?

We are looking for passionate teams anywhere in Delaware to start the program. You will need a teacher/sponsor to help keep the team on track and a team of 10 to 12 teens to work on the program. The team can be an existing group such as SADD, FCCLA, HOSA, student council, or other organized group of students who want to help. Any team looking for a community outreach, teen safety project is ideal. To be considered, teams must be committed to completing activities and messaging the whole school year. Let us know your intent by completing the order form. We send you a starter kit, and then help your team get kick-started in your activities and messaging.

What will you receive?

The team will receive a starter kit with educational resources to use for messaging, team t-shirts, banners, activity calendars, and more. Plus, you will have a regional representative to help you along the way.
