“…your family is waiting for you to come home, do not lose your life because you had to check a notification from your phone or didn’t feel like a seat belt should be worn while driving ” Hailey Hickman AGE 15

Q: Why are you involved in the Teens in the Driver Seat® program and what do you like most about being a part of the team?
A: I am involved In the Texas Teens in the Driver Seat Program, because as a new driver myself I would like to educate more new and experienced drivers of safe ways to drive for not only themselves, but everyone driving around them

Q: If you could change one thing about the way your friends drive or ride in the car, what would it be?
A: If I could change one thing about the way my friends drive is that they all wear seat belts before their car is even put in drive. In 2019 36,096 people perished in car crashes because they didn’t want to wear a seat belt while in a moving car. I would never want one of my friends to be apart of that number of people passing away because of not wearing a seat belt. While seat belts do not always keep you from being harmed in a car crash, they least give you more protection than not wearing a seat belt.

Q: What hashtags would your best friend or person you are closest to use to describe you?
A: The five hashtags my friends would describe me as would be #Helpful, #Caring, #Creative, #Funny, and #Hardworker.

Q: What’s the biggest life lesson you’ve learned?

A: An important life lesson that I have learned is that now is the time to get my education, and invest more into my future so that I can become successful later on in life.

Q: What would you say to inspire other teens to care more about safe driving/traffic safety?
A: Something that I would say to inspire teens to drive safely is that your family is waiting for you to come home, do not lose your life because you had to check a notification from your phone or didn’t feel like a seat belt should be worn while driving. Furthermore, when you are driving you are not only driving for yourself you are driving for the people in the car and others driving around you, and to drive safely.
