Don’t Be a Pumpkin Head (Halloween Activity)

During the Halloween holiday be sure to remind students not to be a pumpkin head with trips and reminders to drive safely during this time of night.

 Items Needed

  • Glow sticks (can also use candy, fruit snacks)
  • Safety messages (labels or handwritten)
  • String or tape
  • Decorations and safety messages for table

 Steps

  1. Plan ahead the week before Halloween to find a good spot where there is a lot of foot traffic. If possible, plan to set up at the exit where the most students are leaving school.
  2. Pick some catchy safety messages to put on the glow sticks focusing on the following:
    • Driving slowly in neighborhoods
    • Being seen for safety
    • Night doubles traffic troubles
    • Not driving late at night
    • Not driving impaired
    • Don’t drive distracted so you won’t miss any ghosts or goblins crossing the streets
  3. Take pictures to send to us and post on social media and your website.
  4. Complete an activity form on t-driver.com for TDS Cup points.
  5. As students were leaving school, they received a glow stick with a flyer attached with safety messaging. The glow stick is a reminder for students to stay alert while driving and also to keep their headlights on since many children are running from house to house on Halloween. When handing out the glow sticks make sure to target every grade.
  6. As always, take photos and report the activity for All-Star points.
Social distance: place giveaways on a table to let students take one. Moderate from a safe distance.
