Teens do have a voice – are you using yours?

I was recently at a conference where one of the speakers brought up the power of the teen.  She stated that a teen has a more powerful voice than an adult. Once you reach 21 years old, your voice becomes just one in a crowd. It really caught my attention, because she was completely correct. We love hearing about teens who make a difference. When youth feels passionately about a subject and is courageous enough to speak out about it, they command attention.

A couple of weeks ago Teens in the Driver Seat was interviewed by USA Today and they visited Cypress Falls High School in Houston, Texas to watch the Teens in the Driver Seat team in action as they used their voice to spread the message to parents about setting the right example for their teens.

Another example is the great work Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications & Fine Arts in Laredo, Texas has done over the years. They have successfully made safe teen driving a community issue and regularly works with the city to deliver messages to a wider audience through large events.

These are just two examples of many teen teams who have utilized Teens in the Driver Seat’s peer-to-peer program to make their voice heard.  Just remember, you are not a leader of tomorrow, you are today’s leader and you are a citizen of our community. You have a voice.
