I was thrilled to be asked to help judge the Driving the Message Contest along with some other communication professionals and teens. I knew the bar was set high and couldn’t wait to see the entries. I was not disappointed. I grew up on a typewriter; computers were not in my schools until I transferred to a larger high school – Katy High School in Katy, Texas (go Tigers!). I fell in love with the idea of creating art on computers and I was lucky enough to continue my creative love in my work life and have not looked back. When I see these entries, I realize the technology I was born too early for is now a part of student’s daily lives and I am in awe of the creativity and talent they possess. When we viewed the first video entry I thought, “Oh, this is going to be tough!” and it was! But, I enjoyed every minute of it. My hat goes off to every student who put time and effort into the entries and the teachers who encourage and guide them on a daily basis. Whether graphics, art or video art is a hobby, a passion or you just wanted to deliver a message, I hope you keep doing it. And, I hope I get to be a part of seeing what you create. Congrats to the winners and honorable mentions!
