Summary of results from the Catch the CRZY! How did your school do?

CRZY webDuring the Fall of 2013, Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) launched an activity to increase seat belt use among teen drivers and passengers at TDS schools. The activity, named Catch the CRZY!, consisted of a pre-observation, three weeks of messaging, a post-observation, and a pizza party for the schools that completed and returned all observation data. The activity was offered to all program schools. Twenty schools signed up to complete the activity, nine completed the pre-observations and seven of those returned all data. With the observation data, we could look at how successful the schools were in changing seat belt behavior. This information was sent to each school so they could share it with media, school officials and even law enforcement.

2013 Click It or Ticket data shows statewide seat belt use for 15- to 19-year-olds to be 90.9% for drivers and 86.6% for passengers.

These results were sent to the school, along with a $50 gift card to congratulate them on their achievements after only three weeks of outreach and related messaging.

For the pre- and post-observations, students were asked to observe teen drivers and passengers and log if they did or did not have their seat belts fastened. Below are highlights of key data and results:
