When I was 11 years old, my 13 year old cousin was riding in a car with a 16 year old driver. This was before wearing seat belts was required by law. The 16 year old driver was distracted by the plans he had after dropping my cousin off at home. The Highway Patrol estimated the car was traveling at about 90mph when they came to a sharp curve. The driver was wearing his seatbelt – my 13 year old cousin was not. Upon entering the curve, the driver lost control and the car flipped several times. My cousin was thrown from the car, and when the car landed, it landed on him killing him instantly. If my cousin had been wearing his seatbelt I believe he would be alive today. The driver is still alive to this day. At least everyday he has to live with the fact that he killed child by being a reckless, irresponsible driver. You should ALWAYS wear a seatbelt in an automobile, and remember you are only one distraction away from ending your life, or the life of someone else.
