In 2009 distracted driving was all over the news. Many articles reported on the danger of distracted driving and how many states were banning the practice. 2010 has already started off to be something else – technology is almost pushing people to be distracted.
One new car commercial says “you can sit your laptop on the console.” Really? Is there a need to be on your computer while you’re driving? Do your homework or surf the net before you get in your car, or wait until you get home.
It gets worse too – at the 2010 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas, a few car companies revealed vehicles that actually have a computer in the dashboard. That’s just asking for a wreck. If you think scrolling through your mp3 player to find a song is distracting, try going through your entire music library while driving.
Just because these companies are making it easier for us to be distracted, doesn’t mean we should do it.
