From now until late in May, police officers will be looking out for anyone not wearing a safety belt, and they’ll be watching even closer for teen drivers and passengers.
The Click It or Ticket campaign has been an annual buckle-up reminder for close to ten years, and this is the second year that the campaign will also focus on teenage drivers and passengers. That makes good sense, because:
- More than half of the young drivers who were killed in car crashes last year were not wearing safety belts at the time of the crash.
- While about 90 percent of adult drivers and front seat passengers wear safety belts every time they get in a car, only about two-thirds of teen drivers and passengers buckle up. And in the back seat, it’s even worse – only one out of every four teen passengers buckle up in the back.
- Only about one out of every five teens believe that driving without a safety belt is risky. Check out that video at www.seatbeltsrock.com and you’ll see why.
Click It or Ticket aims to really boost the number of young drivers and passengers who buckle up every time they get in a car or truck. Be a part of it, and remember, buckling up is more than just the smart thing to do. It’s the law. Break this law, and it will cost you a lot of cash.
