More than 200 teens and safety professionals gathered on Saturday, November 14, at El Paso Community College for the second annual Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) Summit. That’s 31 high schools, 15 cities, 4 states, and 2 countries that were represented by attendees at the Summit.

When it comes to Teens in the Driver Seat teams, the program at Vidal M. Treviño School of Communications and Fine Arts (VMT) has been breaking the mold since the day they signed on. They are now the first team ever to form a TDS Community Advisory Board (CAB).

The Teens in the Driver Seat program may have gotten its start in Texas, but one of the best examples of TDS is almost 2,000 miles away from where everything began. The high school teams from Bristol Eastern and Bristol Central have been setting great examples since they started in the fall of 2008.

Creekview High School in Carrollton, Texas, was a 2008-2009 Teens in the Driver Seat (TDS) Outstanding School. Throughout the school year the team worked hard to spread the message to their peers.

Teens in the Driver Seat is teaming up with the Houston-Galveston Area Council (H-GAC) to bring you the first ever Houston Area Regional Roundup to recruit new TDS schools in the Houston area.

Vidal M. Trevino School of Communications and Fine Arts in Laredo, Texas, made history on Saturday at the Fernando A. Salinas 5K Run. The run was the largest recorded in Laredo and South Texas history.

Students from local high schools in Waco, Texas are trying to make a difference in the way their peers drive. The National Association of Students Against Violence Everywhere (SAVE) held a teen driving summit on Jan. 27 to bring the safe-driving message to area high schools.
