Driving during the holiday season is more dangerous than any other time of the year for many reasons, including an increased number of drivers on the road, drivers making more trips to see family and friends, and an increase in alcohol consumption. This is especially true for drivers with little experience.

In December 2005, members of the San Antonio Youth Commission held a Teens in the Driver Seat news conference to make their community aware of the increased accidents that occur during the holiday season. The news conference was conducted entirely by the students, with broad coverage by the San Antonio news media.
