Dog in a seatbeltHave ya’ll ever ridden in your parents car, and they are driving the speed of snail?

This past Valentines Day, I got myself a dog. She’s a collie retriever mix and is the sweetest thing alive. I absolutely adore her. This being said, I like driving her to the park so we can play and frolic. I soon began to notice a change in my driving habits, I started to drive slower, became more cautious, kept checking on her to make sure she was ok, etc. And it hit me last night, as I was being passed and honked at by another car, I am turning into my dad!! OH EM GEEEEE!!!!

This is only a taste of parenthood, but I’m starting to understand why my parents are so cautious about driving. I guess what I’m trying to say, is that when you really care about someone, you make a choice to keep them safe. It’s not just something people talk about, it is a change. A change in lifestyle, not just for ourselves, but for the one’s we love.

  1. even thoe we are allowed to wear seatbelts are dogs allowed to wear seat belts while in the car as well

  2. Here in Austin, TX it’s actually a city ordinance / law that dogs be secured with a harness/seatbelt, or a crate while in a vehicle. It’s also illegal to hold your pets in your lap, or carry them in an open pickup truck bed. :-)

  3. that’s hilarious … but thats exactly what my mom told me when i yelled at her for bein a slow driver so yeah … !!!! i get it :)

  4. I’ve found I do the same thing when my brother is in the car with me. When I take off from a stop, it’s slower. When I try to make a turn, I looked both ways, then left, then right, and just to make sure I look left again! It gets so ridiculous sometimes that my brother will get tired of it, but as long as he’s safe, I think I can stand his whining and complaining about my driving habits!
