Driving through the eyes of teens: a closer look

According to a new report, “Driving through the eyes of teens: a closer look” by State Farm Insurance and The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, teens who have their own car (whether they bought it or their parents bought it), are twice as likely to get into a car crash.

The study also found that “teens don’t consider themselves inexperienced drivers.” Even though “60 percent of teens think inexperience heavily influences safety, only 15 percent of them consider their peers to be inexperienced.”

The study also showed that teens who have parents that set rules and monitor their behavior are half as likely to get into a car crash, and 71 percent less likely to drive under the influence than those whose parents are less involved.

Multiple solutions are necessary to make teens safer drivers. Parents talking to teens is another channel that can be used to combat the teen driving safety problem.
