National anti-texting law proposed
We all know that texting while driving is dangerous, but in the near future it may be illegal in all states for all drivers in the nation. A new law was proposed in July that would require states to ban texting while driving for everyone, or risk losing 25 percent of their federal highway funding.
In Texas, it’s already illegal to text while driving if you’re under the age of 18. Thirteen other states have also banned the practice in some form or fashion (either banning all drivers, drivers who are 18 and under, or truck drivers).
Car crashes are the number-one killer of teens in America. Driver distractions are third most common risk associated with teen driver fatalities. And being on your cell phone, whether you’re talking or texting, is a huge distraction.
