Texas legislature applauds TDS
The Texas Legislature adopted resolutions on May 4, recognizing the Teens in the Driver Seat program and the Texas Transportation Institute.
State Rep. Lois Kolkhorst of Brenham, Texas – Chair of the House Public Health Committee – sponsored the resolution on behalf of TDS. State Senator Carlos Uresti sponsored a similar resolution adopted by the State Senate.
The purpose of the resolution was to honor all those involved in TDS, especially the Sponstar winners, Driving the Message contest winners, the Teen Advisory Board, and the award winning schools.
In part, the resolution read: “Be it resolved, that the House of Representatives of the 81st Texas Legislature hereby honor the Texas Transportation Institute’s Teens in the Driver Seat program and extend sincere best wishes for continued success to all those associated with TDS…”
Nearly 100 Teens in the Driver Seat members had planned to be present for the reading of the resolution on Monday, but due to concerns related to the swine flu, the Day at the Capitol event was cancelled.
