Texting while driving — not just a bad idea for teens
You may have more in common with a bus driver than you thought. We all know that texting while driving is dangerous, but the truth is that many people still do it. For bus drivers, it is even more dangerous, which is why it has been outlawed in Texas.
Even though it is against the law, a San Antonio bus driver was caught on tape, texting while driving. Luck was not on his side either. He rear-ended a stopped SUV and the video showed that he had been looking at his phone for six minutes. When he finally looked up it was too late to react.
So what do you have in common with this bus driver? He was knowingly distracted while driving. Whether it’s a cell phone, the radio or friends in the back seat that are taking your attention away from the road, distracted driving is dangerous.
The bus driver put many lives in danger. If you text while your driving, you’re putting many lives in danger, too.
Remember it only takes a few seconds to change your life or someone else’s. So put down the phone and tell your friends to keep it down.
