Who’s at fault really doesn’t matter

Car crashes involving teen drivers aren’t always the teens’ fault—but they’re often just as deadly. That was true on March 24 when five Texas City High School teens (near the gulf coast of Texas) had their lives dramatically changed when they were rear-ended by another driver. Samantha Romero died at the scene of the crash, and Raquel Martinez died last week from injuries sustained in the crash.

It is reported that Romero was sitting on Martinez’s lap in the back seat. Remember—just because you are in the back seat does not mean that you are safer. You should always wear your seat belt.

The driver, who rear-ended the teens, was arrested after he was released from the hospital. He has been charged with intoxication manslaughter with a vehicle and three counts of intoxication assault.

This incident is a reminder that everyone needs to be a responsible driver or passenger. And that responsibility goes way beyond the car you’re in. It also means watching out for other dangerous drivers—that’s especially important for young drivers who don’t have much driving experience.
