ACHS teens spread the word at teen safe driving day

achs_mascotArcher City High School, in Archer City, Texas, held a teen safe driving day on March 11, to help spread the word about how to improve teen driving safety.

The day included videos, speeches, and a mock car crash.

Patsy Walls from the Texas Department of Transportation spoke about distracted driving and also brought the “rollover convincer” from TxDOT. The rollover convincer simulates what happens in a rollover crash when a seat belt is not worn.

Senior Trooper Gary Rozzell from the Department of Public Safety spoke about the importance of being safe on the road and the dangers of driving under the influence.

At the end of the day, the students were alerted of a car crash in the school’s parking lot. The “victims” of the crash, (TDSers Kelsee Gurrero and Brady Cowan) volunteer firemen, an ambulance and a hearse were at the scene of the crash.

The day concluded with students going back to their classrooms where the TDS team led a discussion about ways to drive safer.
